Most In-Demand Jobs in Cameroon in 2026

By the SangoServices team6 min read

In everyday jobs, the most in-demand trades in Cameroon are cleaning, babysitting, cooking, delivery and driving: these are the trades employers searched for most on SangoServices over July 1 – September 30, 2026. Cleaning is clearly first (141 addresses), ahead of babysitting (73). The trade where demand most outstrips supply is driving: 1.04 searching addresses per available worker.

For formal jobs, no recent official statistic ranks occupations by demand. What public sources do show: government and the formal private sector account for only about 13 jobs in 100 (INS), and the State's priorities are energy, agro-industry, digital, construction and industry (NDS30). The two parts below are kept separate: our data first, public sources second.

The 10 trades employers search for most (SangoServices data)

For each trade, the ranking counts the distinct addresses that searched for it in the SangoServices directory, then the available workers offering it and their median day rate.

The takeaway: demand is concentrated in household services (cleaning, childcare, cooking) and road jobs (delivery, driving). These are trades you can start without a diploma, with reliability and good references — see our guide to jobs without a diploma in Douala. In the anglophone regions, see cleaning jobs in Buea, Limbe and Kumba.

Where competition is lowest

A much-searched trade is not always the easiest one to get work in: you also need to know how many workers already offer it. Dividing searching addresses by available workers, driving stands out: 47 addresses for 45 workers, or 1.04 per worker. For cleaning, the ratio is 0.31: lots of demand, but lots of profiles too.

If you can do this work, a complete profile in that trade has a good chance of being seen. The split by city is in the trade map of Douala and Yaoundé.

How much do these trades pay?

Based on the rates workers display on SangoServices, the median day rate is cleaning 7,000 FCFA, babysitting 6,000 FCFA and cooking 8,000 FCFA (Q4 2026). That is the price asked for one day, not a monthly salary: work is not necessarily available every day. Full ranges are in how much to pay a housekeeper, nanny or cook, and the legal floor in our article on the minimum wage (SMIG) in Cameroon.

What about formal jobs? What public sources say

Formal employment is small. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INS, EESI 3, 2021), public administration employs 8.2% of employed people and the formal private sector 5.1%; everything else is informal. By sector, services account for 32.7% of jobs, trade 14.6%, industry 17.5% and the primary sector (farming, livestock, fishing) 35.2%.

A diploma alone is not enough. Unemployment affects 6.1% of people aged 14 or over nationally, but 15.4% in Douala, 11.7% in Yaoundé and 17.6% among university graduates. Choosing a course that leads to a sought-after trade matters as much as the level of study.

The sectors the State is targeting. The National Development Strategy 2020-2030 (NDS30, MINEPAT, 2020, §3.1) names the energy industry, agro-industry, digital, forestry and wood, textiles and leather, mining and metallurgy, hydrocarbons, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and construction and technical services as its priorities. It is an investment plan, not a count of job vacancies: it shows where the State wants activity to grow, and so trades such as IT, building trades, electrical and energy work, or food processing. For detailed prospects, see future-proof jobs in Cameroon and IT studies and where they lead.

Health and teaching mostly recruit through competitive exams: in 2026, the direct recruitments opened by MINFOPRA include doctors, nurses and engineers (MINFOPRA, 7 June 2026). Our guide to concours in Cameroon explains how to prepare.

How to make the most of it as a young person

  • Aim for an in-demand trade you can already do: cleaning, childcare, cooking, delivery, driving. These are the trades employers look for every week, in Douala and Yaoundé as in Buea, Limbe or Bamenda.
  • Create a complete profile (photo, description, rate): create my free profile. Employers find you in the directory and call you directly.
  • Check the listings: the job listings posted on SangoServices and those found on other sites.
  • Prepare your documents: job application letter, cover letter, job interview tips.
  • Be wary of offers that look too good: a real employer never asks you for money to hire you. See how to spot a fake job offer.

Sources and method

SangoServices data: Q4 2026 edition of the Informal Jobs Barometer (Q4 2026), period July 1 – September 30, 2026, computed on the production database (test accounts, bots and workers excluded). An "address" is a distinct connection that searched for the trade in the directory; several people can share one address (mobile networks), so it is a relative measure between trades. The searchers-per-worker ratio is only published from 30 addresses. Data as CSV: searchers per worker, day rates.

Public sources: National Institute of Statistics, INS, EESI 3, 2021 (table 3.7, p. 40; summary, p. xi); NDS30, MINEPAT, 2020, §3.1.
